POWELL, WYOMING – On Tuesday, November 18, the Northwest College Education Department is hosting a workshop open to all early childhood professionals in the Bighorn Basin. Titled “Joyful Learning: Roots of Literacy”, the event takes place from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. in the Yellowstone Building Conference Center, led by NWC Assistant Professor of Education Dr. Cammy Rowley, and NWC Instructor of Education Jo-el Sauers.
Invited to attend are preschool and infant or toddler teachers, K-3 teachers, school administrators, childcare providers, and Northwest College education students. The workshop will explore historical influencers and how children construct their understanding of literacy. Using a variety of materials, participants will experience the playful roots of language, phonemic awareness, and alphabetic principles that grow readers and writers.
